Frequently Asked Questions

When it comes to making a mattress purchase, it’s natural to have a host of questions. That’s particularly true if the mattress costs a significant amount of money. Potential customers often wonder about the features, benefits, durability, price, and delivery of the product. In this section, we’ll answer some of the most frequently asked questions from our potential customers. We hope that this post will give you the much-needed answers and help you make an informed decision.

General Mattress Questions

What is the best type of mattress for me?

Some additional information about the three most common mattress types can help you make an informed decision when it comes to choosing the best one for yourself. Each type of mattress has its own unique features and benefits, so it’s important to understand them before making a purchase.  The three most common mattress types are inner spring, adjustable air mattresses and foam mattresses like the Sure2Sleep Monterey.

Innerspring mattresses have been around the longest and are typically composed of steel coils. The number, shapes, and sizes of these coils can vary significantly, thereby affecting the comfort, support, and durability of the mattress. These mattresses offer a good level of bounce and are usually firmer than foam mattresses, making them a good choice for those who prefer a firm sleeping surface. One thing to keep in mind though is that innerspring mattresses might not offer as much motion isolation as their foam counterparts.

Adjustable air mattresses provide a unique flexibility in terms of comfort and firmness. These types of mattresses include air chambers that can be inflated or deflated to your desired level of firmness or softness. This customization makes them an excellent choice for those who have specific comfort needs or for couples with different sleeping preferences. Many models even offer dual chambers, allowing each side of the bed to be adjusted independently. However, these types of mattresses can be on the expensive side and the mechanical parts may require maintenance over time.

Foam mattresses are typically made from different layers of foam materials such as memory foam, latex foam, or polyurethane foam. These mattresses are popular for their pressure relieving benefits – the foam conforms to your body, providing personalized support at your pressure points. Additionally, they offer good motion isolation which means that one partner’s movement won’t disturb the other’s sleep. These mattresses are a good choice for those who like a mattress that is compliant to their body’s natural curves.

How often should a mattress be replaced?

Mattresses are an essential part of our daily lives. They provide comfort and support for our bodies while we sleep, allowing us to wake up feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. However, over time, mattresses can lose their shape, become uncomfortable, and even pose health risks if not replaced regularly.

So how often should a mattress be replaced? The answer to this question can vary, but the general rule of thumb given by experts is every 7-10 years. The life of a mattress depends on several factors, including its quality, how it’s used, and personal comfort preferences. If you find yourself waking up with body aches more frequently or notice visible signs of wear such as sagging or lumps, it might be time for a replacement. It is important to keep in mind that a good mattress is integral to your overall health and sleep quality.  Remember, mattress lifespan can vary based on the type of mattress and how well it is cared for.

What are the different mattress sizes available?

There are various mattress sizes available to suit different needs. The most common ones are:

  • Twin size (38″ x 75″): Ideal for kids or single adults with limited living space.
  • Full size (54″ x 75″): A bit wider than a twin, suitable for single adults who need more sleeping space.
  • Queen size (60″ x 80″): Perfect for couples or individuals who prefer more room.
  • King size (76″ x 80″): Provides ample space for couples with pets or kids who share the bed.
  • California King size (72″ x 84″): Slightly narrower and longer than a King, this size is ideal for taller individuals or those with ample bedroom space.
What firmness level should I choose for my mattress?

While mattress firmness is often touted as a key factor in achieving a good night’s sleep, its importance may be somewhat overrated. Firmness is highly subjective, and research suggests that individual comfort and support needs tend to outweigh the significance of any generic firmness rating. This means that a mattress that’s perfect for one person might be uncomfortable for another, regardless of firmness level. It’s more crucial to consider factors such as body type, sleep position, and personal comfort preference when selecting a mattress. Therefore, while firmness is a factor to take into account, it shouldn’t be the sole determining factor in your mattress selection process.  Overall comfort and support should be two primary considerations.  All Sure2Sleep mattresses are rated medium-firm, which we find addresses the right balance between comfort and support.

How can I alleviate backpain with the right mattress?

Choosing the right mattress can greatly help alleviate back pain. When selecting a mattress, consider its firmness, material, and your sleeping position. A medium-firm mattress is often the best choice for back pain sufferers as it provides a good balance of support and comfort. Foam mattresses can contour to the body’s shape, providing additional support for the lower back. If you’re a side sleeper, a slightly softer mattress can help keep the spine aligned. Remember, everybody is unique and what works for one person might not work for another.

Are there mattresses specifically designed for side sleepers, back sleepers, or stomach sleepers?

Yes, there are mattresses specifically designed to cater to the different sleeping positions: side sleepers, back sleepers, and stomach sleepers. Side sleepers often benefit from medium to medium firm mattresses that contour to the curves of the body and help relieve pressure points. Back sleepers typically require a medium-firm mattress, providing an optimal balance of comfort and support. Stomach sleepers, on the other hand, usually like a firmer mattress to keep the spine properly aligned and to prevent sinking into the mattress.

What are the benefits of an adjustable bed frame?

Adjustable bed frames offer a host of benefits that can improve comfort, health, and lifestyle. They allow for customization of sleeping positions which can alleviate health issues like sleep apnea, heartburn, acid reflux or GERD, and snoring. With the ability to adjust the head or foot of the bed, individuals can position themselves for optimal comfort while reading, watching TV, or working on a laptop. Furthermore, adjustable beds accommodate various firmness levels and can cater to the preferred sleeping posture, potentially improving sleep quality. Their rising popularity among all age groups attests to their various advantages, turning the bedroom into a more versatile and personalized space.

How do I clean and maintain my mattress?

Cleaning and maintaining your mattress is a simple but necessary task to prolong its lifespan and ensure your sleeping environment is hygienic.

  1. Start by removing all bedding and washing it regularly.
  2. Vacuum your mattress every month to remove dust and allergens.
  3. If stains are present, use a gentle fabric cleaner. Apply it to the stain and blot with a clean cloth. Avoid soaking the mattress.
  4. Rotate your mattress every 6 months to prevent sagging.
  5. Finally, use a mattress protector to safeguard against spills, stains, and dust mites.

Remember, every mattress comes with unique care instructions, so be sure to follow those as well.

How can I improve the lifespan of my mattress?

Improving the lifespan of a mattress can be achieved through several means. First, always use a mattress protector to guard against dust, spills, and other potential damages. Rotate your mattress every three to six months to ensure even wear and tear. Avoid jumping on the bed as it can cause unnecessary strain on the mattress’s structure. Keep the mattress clean by vacuuming it regularly, and immediately address any spills or stains. Finally, make sure your mattress is properly supported by a quality bed frame or foundation to evenly distribute weight and prevent sagging.

What are the factors to consider when buying a mattress on a budget?

When buying a mattress on a budget, several factors should be taken into consideration:

  1. Material Quality: The longevity and comfort of a mattress depend greatly on the quality of its materials. Look for materials that are durable yet affordable.
  2. Brand Reputation: Often, companies with a good reputation offer better customer service and warranty terms.
  3. Comfort Level: A mattress should provide a comfortable sleep. Look for a mattress that supports your sleeping position and relieves pressure points.
  4. Size: Size can greatly influence the price of the mattress. Choose a size that fits your needs but also fits within your budget.
  5. Sales and Discounts: Look out for sales, discounts, and promotional offers to get the best deal.

Remember, a good night’s sleep is crucial for a healthy life, so make sure to choose wisely, even when on a budget.

Are there mattresses suitable for people with allergies?

Absolutely, there are a variety of mattresses available in the market that are specifically designed to cater to individuals with allergies. These hypoallergenic mattresses are constructed with materials that resist common allergens like dust mites, mold, and mildew. For instance, mattresses made out of natural latex or polyurethane foam, those covered with materials that tend to prevent allergen buildup effectively. Furthermore, some mattresses come with antimicrobial covers or treatments, further limiting the growth of allergens. Hence, individuals suffering from allergies can have a comfortable, uninterrupted sleep by opting for these specialized mattresses.

What certifications should I look for in a mattress?

When searching for a quality mattress, several certifications can signify safety, quality, and eco-friendly production. The CertiPUR-US certification ensures the foam used in the mattress is made without harmful substances like mercury, lead, and other heavy metals. It also guarantees minimal VOC emissions for indoor air quality. Similarly, the OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification signifies that every component of the product, down to the threads, buttons, and other accessories, has been tested for harmful substances and is therefore harmless in human ecological terms. Other notable certifications include the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), which pertains to organic fibers, and the Global Organic Latex Standard (GOLS), which applies to latex materials.

How long does it take to break in a new mattress?

The process of breaking in a new mattress varies from person to person and depends largely on the type of mattress. On average, it can take anywhere from 30 to 90 days for your body to adjust to the feel of a new mattress. During this period, the mattress materials also have the opportunity to soften and conform more accurately to your body’s shape. It’s recommended to sleep on the new mattress every night during this period to expedite the break-in process.

How do I choose the right pillow to complement my mattress?

Choosing the right pillow to complement your mattress is a key step in ensuring a good night’s sleep. The best pillow for you depends on your sleeping position, personal comfort preference, and the type of mattress you have.

If you sleep on your side, a firm pillow can help keep your head and neck in alignment. Back sleepers may benefit from a thinner, softer pillow, while stomach sleepers often find comfort with a very thin or even no pillow.

Memory foam or latex pillows can be a great choice to complement a memory foam mattress since they offer good support and adapt to your shape. If you have a firm mattress, a down or feather pillow can offer a bit of plushness.

Remember, it’s important to replace your pillow every one to two years to ensure it provides appropriate support. Invest in a good pillow protector to keep it clean and extend its lifespan.

Can I try a mattress before buying it?

Online mattress companies like Sure2Sleep offer a ‘sleep trial’ period, during which customers can return the mattress for a refund if they are not satisfied with their sleep experience.

Are there any risks associated with buying a mattress online?

When purchasing a mattress from a reputable online store, consider the following steps:

  1. Research: Start with thorough research. Look up various online mattress stores, check their reviews, and compare their prices. Websites such as Yelp and Google Reviews can help you decide on the most reputable stores.
  2. Understand Mattress Types: Understand the different types of mattresses available – foam, innerspring, hybrid, latex, etc. These vary in terms of comfort, support, and longevity. Choose the type that best suits your sleeping style and comfort preferences.
  3. Check Return Policy: Ensure the online store has a favorable return policy. Most online mattress companies offer a trial period where you can sleep on the mattress for a certain number of nights (typically 30 or more) and still return it if it isn’t a good fit.
  4. Read Product Descriptions Carefully: Pay close attention to product descriptions. Factors such as firmness level, materials used, and dimensions are important to note.
  5. Place Your Order: Once you’ve made your decision, proceed to order. Make sure the website is secure before entering your payment details.
  6. Unbox and Setup: Upon delivery, unbox your new mattress and set it up as per the instructions provided by the manufacturer.

Remember, a good mattress is an investment in your health and well-being, so take your time with this process.

How does the mattress return and warranty process work?

The process for returning a mattress and invoking the warranty typically begins with customers contacting the company to express dissatisfaction or report an issue. The company will then initiate a return or warranty claim, often requiring proof of purchase and detailed information about the problem. For returns, the mattress usually needs to be in good condition and within the specified trial period. For warranty claims, the issue should fall under the terms of the warranty, such as manufacturing defects or abnormal wear and tear. In both instances, the company will either arrange for pickup of the mattress or provide instructions for the customer to return it. Once the returned mattress is inspected and the claim approved, the customer can expect a refund, replacement, or repair depending on the individual situation and company policy.

What is the difference between a pillow-top, euro-top, and plush mattress?

Pillow-top, euro-top, and plush mattresses are all designed to offer enhanced comfort, but they differ in their construction and feel. A pillow-top mattress features an additional layer of soft padding stitched to the mattress’s top, creating a distinct ‘pillow’ appearance. This layer enhances the softness of the mattress, providing a cloud-like sleeping experience.

On the other hand, a euro-top mattress also includes an extra layer for comfort, but it is sewn flush with the edges of the mattress, thereby providing a more uniform appearance. This design typically offers a balance between comfort and support.

A plush mattress, finally, is a term that often denotes a mattress with a soft to medium-soft feel, but it does not specify a particular construction. A plush mattress could be a memory foam, innerspring, or hybrid mattress. Its key characteristic is its luxurious, sink-in softness that cradles the body in comfort.

We manufacture all of our mattresses with high-density, high quality polyurethane foams.  All of our foams are made in the USA.  All foams are certified by CertiPur-US so they are free from known harmful chemicals and carcinogens, PDBE’s, heavy metals, phthalates and formaldehyde.  The cover material is a blend of polyester and lycra®.

What foundation is needed under the Sure2Sleep® mattress?

You can place your mattress on the floor, a slatted base, a box spring, a platform bed or an adjustable frame.  If you use a box spring, be sure there is adequate lateral support for your mattress.  You might need to add slats or a piece of plywood for support.

How thick are the Sure2Sleep® mattresses?

We offer mattresses in two depths, 10 inches and 12 inches deep. The different heights of the base layer height to the base layer provides no difference in the comfort, support or stability of the mattress.

What is the foam density?

The density of the base layer in the mattress is 1.8 pounds per cubic foot. The density on the HyPURGel™ top layer is 3 Pounds per cubic foot.

Why is your pricing less than the other brands?

Most of the brands we compete against do not actually manufacture their mattresses.  Rather they have other companies manufacture their mattresses for them.  Someone else makes the foam, someone else fabricates it, someone else makes the cover, and then someone else assembles it.  At Sure2Sleep® we make everything except the outside fabric.  But we do cut and sew it into a mattress cover!

What are the benefits of your mattress over an innerspring mattress?

Innerspring mattress can vary greatly in quality.  The number and type of coils used will have a direct effect on the mattresses’ longevity.   What the coils are made of also matters.  Low-gauge wire and tempered steel coils last longer than high-gauge wire and non-tempered steel.  Then there is the comfort factor.   Innerspring mattresses do not contour well to individual body shapes and sizes.  This can be a problem with pressure point relief or for those suffering from back pain.  Coil springs also provide poor motion isolation making them a poor fit for the partners of light sleepers.  Finally, the springs can be noisy.   Foam mattresses, on the other hand, easily contour to the body providing great support.  They are also good for relieving pressure points.    Foam mattresses offer unequaled stability and they don’t bounce and transfer movement like mattresses with inner springs.

Are your reviews real?

Yes, they are all from real customers.  The reviews are labeled verified when the person submitting the review was the one who actually purchased it.  There are also reviews of our mattresses on Amazon.  Most people have rated our mattress four or five stars.  There are some that were not happy for a variety of reasons.  That is why we offer a 30- day satisfaction guarantee.

What is your mattress and pillow warranty period?
